What can marketers learn from BBC News? I mean, aside from why we should fear swine (like we needed another reason).

According to the “King of Usability” Jakob Nielsen, BBC News produces the world’s best headlines. His point is specifically about headline length, but the concept of being concise and informative is easily translated to email subject lines, social media, and beyond.

Summary:

  • Keep it short
  • Most valuable information at the beginning of the line
  • Plain language, easily understandable

Character count may differ, depending on the application, but those few (and often overlooked) rules apply to all forms of digital communication.
