1. Succinct
2. Accurate
3. Iconoclastic
4. Strategic
5. Worthy of multiple tweets & retweets
(If only I had a Twitter account...)

I don't think its a great move. From my experience Amazon is best in class when it comes to service, pricing and having primer partners deliver what isn't core to Amazon.

Zappo may be good at some of these things, but pricing isn't one of them. Especially given that most shoes are made in China - its just a modern day slavery that we all tolerate as its not in our back yard.!

Great point Jacques, the use of “impact” may have been the wrong word within this context. You are correct, that the true impact will take time to accumulate, but the increase in reach is definitely a positive for Social Media.

The adoption of Facebook, and huge increases over the past year is more attributable to the adoption of social technologies, indicating that the non-traditional social media users fears may be diminishing. Facebook seems to be the jumping off point for other social sites, where the people you wouldn’t expect are trying the community based network for the first time (or just pressure from family and friends). There definitely has been a migration away from Facebook amongst specific segments of users, similar to the migration away from MySpace, moving to some of the new platforms or potentially away from the mainstream.

Well, if most users are new to FB, how does it really "show the impact social media is having on everyday life..."?

For now, it just says many people are trying it out, and we know many older members have decreased their usage, or even completely stopped.

We will need a few more years before we can truly talk about an "impact".

Hi, Trae -- thanks for the kind post on my slidedeck! With a great session title like "mythbusing PPC urban legends" (which someone else at SMX came up with), it was a fun way to approach to the topic.
